Art is Good Therapy
I'm not going to discuss politics or how I feel about the election results this week. A lot of other people are doing that already. What I will say is that this week was an emotional one and I had to find a way to cope with all of it. Aside from hugging Bruno (who's not a fan of hugs) and eating ice cream (something I already turn to in difficult times) I decided to use the act of creating as therapy.
I haven't been motivated to go out and shoot much since I moved but I knew I had plenty of film scans that I could play with and that's how my therapy began. The only goals: create something beautiful and enjoy myself.
These are just two of the images in the series On Film which has been a lot of fun to create. The images were taken with my mom's 35mm film camera which has a great 50mm lens. There is dust on these, and I like it. To me it's part of the cool thing about shooting film.
Going through these photos I remembered that I have film waiting to be developed. Film that I shot years ago. I wonder what I will find there?
Today the Universe decided I needed encouragement with my art therapy and I came across this video:
"When things get tough: make good art." - Neil Gaiman
It's a 20 minute video but 100% worth the time. Even though it's 4 years old, the ideas are just as valid today as they were then. I hope it inspires you. It inspired me.
