You Might Get Lucky
I was ready to leave. The sky was boring, there were too many people and it was already too late in the morning to get any good light. I walked out on the pier. Nothing. I walked down to the boardwalk and see if there were any good views from there. Nothing. Just as I was about to call it a day I strolled down to the lifeguard parking lot to take a look at the view from there. I couldn't believe it. I almost missed it...
I've been to Oceanside Pier many times because it's geographically convenient. I've gotten many images that I love but the way the pier is built, you can't get under it unless the tide is really low. All of the times I had been there the tide had been too high and I'd never been able to get this view. While this may not seem like much of a big deal, since I'm working on photographing all of the California piers it was a big deal to me. I was so excited I stood below the pier taking photos and muttering to myself.
I was thrilled - elated that I had finally gotten this view. So the moral of the story is: keep trying - you might get lucky. It may seem pointless, it may seem like a waste of time, but you might get lucky. I don't believe that success is based on luck, but rather on hard work. Even then, something "lucky" like this can help keep you going like it did for me.
